There's this Frank Ocean ditty I love, 'Skyline To', that is all about the passing of time and the importance of living in the present. Every year seems to come & go with increasing levels of light speed. I find myself in a constant battle not to stress over all the things I didn't get to do; things I failed miserably at; things I wish I could have changed.
Time waits for no man or woman. It's honest, harsh & unforgiving. Yet, I'm finding solace in the transparency of time in ways I never did before. I believe that despite any/all shortcomings I experienced in 2024: I lived my truth & I owned my moments. The two extremes of success and failure don't need to be mutually exclusive. To be honest, I've long believed that one cannot truly know success without having first failed. All year I flew to new heights only to feel new lows. I don't take a single high or low felt in 2024 for granted.
This was the year that set me up to be better, stronger, faster *cue the Daft Punk tune* all 2025. While moving forward is always key, not everything needs to be left behind to make room for what's to come in the new year. "Own your moments" is a message I'm taking with me into the new year. That, and a trio of focus words that I didn't even realize spelled out the perfect acronym. Gratitude. Power. Self-care. If you haven't already: check your GPS for the year. Are you headed into the direction you plugged into your internal map? Perhaps we need to make some detours to account for unexpected traffic & road hazards along this journey?
Where is your GPS taking you this year?
Cheers,
The Certified Wino
